Often when riding a motorcycle, eyes are constantly irritated by the flying dust particles; while swimming the muddy, salty seawater hampers clear vision.

Safety eyewear have been created for this very purpose – to protect your precious eyes from all sorts of irritants.

They are usually stronger than your daily-wear or sunglasses frames.

They are also tougher so as to handle the extra wear and tear they might have to go through.

Lenses for such frames are mostly plastic or polycarbonate glasses; the latter is better.

Different kinds of safety eyeglasses are available in the market, suitable for different situations and environments.

Depending on the kind of work or activity you are engaging in, appropriate safety wear is essential.

Harmful UV rays, dust, chlorinated/seawater, snow, insects amongst other things, are the few major reasons for you to make sure that your eyes are well shielded and cared for.

If you are involved in work like drilling, woodwork, sanding, chemical handling, sawing or other such activity that holds the danger of tiny elements being flung into your eye, then protective glasses or goggles are a must.

Most opticians recommend that your safety glasses be customized according to your eyes.

Protective eyeglass frames work best if they are designed and fitted for the individual, since face sizes and shapes differ from person to person; the glasses should fit snugly from the temple, the sides and be well supported on the bridge of your nose.

Also check that the lenses aren’t being pushed into your eyes but are still as close to the face as they can get.

While choosing safety glasses, there a few things that you should keep in mind.

The look is not criterion enough to ensure you buying them.

Make sure the glasses fit you, i.e., look at all the possible angles from which your safety glasses can be breached.
